Star Diner Gets Ready for Summer
As the season changes to spring and the weather turns warm; Kentlands restaurant Star Diner prepares for upcoming summer concerts and events.
Star Diner owner Martin “Marty” Kobrin finalized the roster for the summer concerts several weeks ago and already set up the diner for the spring and summer months by providing outdoor patio seating.
“Recently, the weather has been unseasonably warm. The diner will offer outdoor seating as long as the weather stays clear,” Kobrin said.
Star Diner sponsors a series of outdoor summer concerts starting on June 1 that run during the weekends throughout the summer months until the end of August. The concerts start at 7 p.m. and last until 9 p.m.
“There is definitely a rise in patrons at the diner when we have the summer concerts. The Kentlands as a whole gets very crowded during the concerts because so many people come out to see the live music. People are holed up all winter and want to sit outside and enjoy the good food and good atmosphere,” Kobrin said.
The summer concerts will feature many repeat bands from previous years, such as Solomons Gold, Platform Soul, and Sandra Dean Band. There will also be four new bands featured during the concerts.
Star Diner has offered the summer concerts for the past 10 years. This year, Star Diner will provide a live feed of the concerts on their updated website to provide followers online to view to concerts and receive updates about the bands who are playing.
Kobrin said, “[Star Diner] has been running the summer concerts for the past several years. Everyone at the diner really looks forward to it. … The community looks forward to the events as well.”
Kobrin continued to say, “The Diner is the only restaurant that participates with the summer concerts. We pay for the security, and we also pay for the music.”
Along with the outdoor concerts, Star Diner offers the Tiki Bar in the outside patio, which opens in the middle of May.
This season marks the Star Diner’s 12-year anniversary. The restaurant just released a new menu and joined Living Social.
“The Kentlands community benefits from the summer concerts. We’re glad everyone looks forward to the summer events,” Kobrin said.
