How to Dress Classy at a Dance

By Daniela Kuhr

Coco Chanel once said: “A girl should be two things: classy and fabulous.”

I apologize if I am going to destroy your world view with what I am about to say, but being classy involves dressing classy. After experiencing my first dance at Hood College a few weeks ago, I feel the need to give some advice on how to dress for an informal dance or party.

The most important rule you have to keep in mind while picking out your outfit for the night is that being classy implies not showing too much of your body. This also includes those of you who have a great body.

I completely understand that you want to look attractive (especially if you are on a man-hunt). That does not mean you have to look like you just arrived to America on a ship filled with Puritans.

However, you have to make a decision: either show legs or have a low neckline. Only one of those two is good at a time. A short dress with a low neckline still looks good if you wear a pair of tights. Otherwise, your dress should have a more modest length.

In addition, I feel obligated to mention: I am glad that all of you were wearing underwear and resisted the influence of famous females you can see on TV (no need to mention names, right?).

But still, unless you are a model for an underwear brand and get paid to do that, there is no need to show your underwear to everyone.

If you want to get involved in some dirty dancing, you should either decide in favor of shorts, or you could wear a dress, which is long enough to still cover “the goods” while you are dancing dirty.
