The Hood College Student Government Association held its annual free Easter egg hunt for the children of Frederick on Sunday, March 29.
The event was packed with local children making crafts and taking pictures with the Easter bunny, as well as looking for eggs on campus. SGA offered face painting, crafts to make your own bunny ears and whiskers, and bunnies, and a variety of prizes for the Easter egg hunt.
“We hope to bring the community onto campus, show them what a great place Hood College is, have everyone really enjoy the coming of spring and Easter, and always hope for good weather so everyone can really enjoy,” says SGA vice-president Alison Schuetz, who says the event has been held since around 2009.
Kids eagerly made crafts and took pictures with the Easter bunny, while parents showed their admiration for everything the event had to offer.
“It’s a very exciting experience with a great environment,” says parent Greg Mann, who had never attended the event before, but plans to attend again in the future.
The eggs, which were hidden by various SGA members prior to the event, were available for hunting by children aged 1 and up. The children were separated into groups, so that children aged 8 and older searched for eggs following the younger children.
“Over the years I think we’ve learned a lot,” says Schuetz. “We’ve stuck to the system of age groups and prizes for eggs, but I think our crafts have gotten a little bit more interesting.”
