Despite COVID-19, Hood College will not give up on its clubs.
Lily Bean, SGA president and resident assistant in the new residence hall, reminds the community that “even in times of pandemic, we are met with the awesome task of being even more creative while practicing social distancing.”
All clubs will be held online using Zoom. Every club is planning to move forward “with excitement and a little bit of anxiety,” Bean said. Hood is doing everything it can to maintain a safe, healthy, and educational learning environment, she said.
Dean Olivia White said clubs also might be held outside “as long as they practice all of the COVID-19 guidelines.”
Before the recent shutdown, some clubs were able to meet in person if the guidelines were followed.
The rules mean changes in the way food can be served at events, Bean said. “We order/purchase our materials safely and from reputable sources. All food provided at events must be pre-packaged…Although it is not the most sustainable option, it is the safest,” Bean said.
White encouraged students to download the Corq application on their cell phones to connect with other students regarding organizations and club meetings. “Last semester Bonnie Nipper helped about 51 of our student clubs and organizations to get started on Pergola Connect,” White said. Students can
White says that although the application is fairly new and still in progress, the more students who use it and review it, the quicker it will improve.
“I am strongly encouraging that anyone who wants to hold their club meetings should do that,” White said.
