Winter sports in limbo

A final decision on the structure of Hood’s winter sports’ competitive seasons has not yet been made.

The Middle Atlantic Conference presidents met on Nov. 3 but were unable to reach a conclusion on how the season should be structured.

“They asked the athletic directors to do some work on coming up with some proposals on different models about ways in which we might be able to play,” Athletic Director Susan Kolb said.

Gov. Larry Hogan’s updated COVID-19 policies have also impacted the ability to make this decision.

“We have made adjustments to our policies and athletics,” Kolb said.

Despite this, some athletic activities have been occurring. Hood’s swim team has also had virtual meets where each school swims at their own development rather than traveling to a single campus.

“No athletic team will stay on campus after break,” Kolb said. “Teams will practice this week and next week, but after that they will go home.”

As of right now, the teams will have off through December, potentially even longer.

Until then, athletic teams, as well as the pool and the fitness center, will adjust to Governor Hogan’s updated policies, meaning only 25 people will be allowed in each area at a time and masks will continue to be worn.
