Ask BeeGee: How to Avoid Boredom During Quarantine

By Maddie Garvis//

When you can’t leave your house for two weeks, boredom is inevitable. Take it from me, I’m on day seven. Only seven to go!

A member of my family tested positive for COVID-19, which means that I am quarantined in my house for the next two weeks. During this time, I’ve found that the key to beating boredom is activities. Lots of them.

Do a puzzle, build something out of Legos, read a book, binge-watch that tv show that everyone’s been telling you to watch, catch up on the homework that you’re probably already behind on or get yourself an adult coloring book (a highly underrated method of stress relief in my opinion.)

Play video games, rearrange your room, try out some new recipes for dinner, hang out with your pets and listen to your favorite music.

Be sure to keep in contact with friends and family whether it be through text, phone calls, or video chatting. Just because you’re physically isolated from them doesn’t mean you need to be socially isolated as well.

Make sure to keep it fresh. Don’t spend too long doing one thing or it’ll just get added to the list of things that bore you out of your mind. Like the home shopping channel, or calculus, unless you’re a math person. Good for you if you are.

If you feel a need for fresh air, go for a drive or take your dog on a walk. Or you could take your cat on a walk, you do you.

Whatever activities you decide to try, the most important thing is to fill your time with something. Time will fly by and before you know it, you’ll be free and will have gained a newfound love for adult coloring books.
