Softball season preview

A 28-game schedule is set for the Hood College softball team as they start their 2021 season on March 6.

The Blazers have a shorter season than normal due to COVID-19, but 28 games still leave the team with a lot of room for play. Hood will face Stevenson University, DeSales University, Alvernia University, Albright College, Widener University, York College and Eastern University, all schools in the Mid-Atlantic Conference.

The first game will be an away game at Stevenson at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 6. Each time the Blazers compete, they will play a doubleheader. All games will be played on Friday, Saturday or Sunday.

With only four upperclassmen, the team is hoping to gain experience this season. Key returning players include lone senior, Caitlin Gosline and juniors Cailyn Barthlow, Brandi Davidson and Angela Acampora.

“I’m simply looking forward to have the opportunity to go out and compete for my senior season,” Gosline said. “I am grateful to be able to play this season with my best friends.”

With a 12-game season last year, the Blazers overall record was 2-10. This year the team is hoping to keep improving and win more games.

The women’s first home game will be this Sunday against Stevenson.
