Hood College baseball is finally back for the 2021 season. After only getting to play 11 games last year, the team is eager for a more normal season this time around.
The Blazers are coming into this season with returning players ready for redemption. Grad student Jordan Patterson is back for his final season among other key returning players including seniors Andrew Wenner, Jake Howell and Ryan D’Allesandro.
Hood’s usual baseball schedule consists of around 40 games each season, but due to COVID-19, the schedule for this year has been altered. The only opponents for baseball will be the other schools in the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC).
The schedule for this 2021 season consists of 28 games against Alvernia University, Stevenson University, Messiah College, York College, Lebanon Valley College and Widener University. The MAC Commonwealth Championships will start on May 1, following the conclusion of the regular season.
A doubleheader will be played every Saturday and Sunday, and a selection of players will be COVID tested on Fridays before the games. Saturday, March 6 is opening day for the Blazers as they take on Alvernia.
“We are really excited to be able to play again,” junior outfielder Matt Schopf said. “It was rough last year missing out on our season like that, so we are just all very happy that we get to have a season at all.”
After going 8-3 last spring, the Blazers are seen as one of the top teams for this season.
