Weekend Round-Up: Week 3 of spring sports

Baseball: On Saturday, March 27, the Hood baseball team split a double header series with Stevenson University. The Blazers won the first game 2-0 in seven innings but dropped the second game to the Mustangs 9-6. Jordan Patterson pitched game one and allowed only three hits. Patterson also scored a run, contributing to the Blazers offense as well. Andrew Wenner scored the second run on a sacrifice fly by Chris Nalley.

Softball: The Hood softball team defeated Albright College in both games of their double header series. Hood won the first game 8-1 and won the second 16-0. In game one, five different plays scored including three runs from Cailyn Barthlow. Mallorie Hetzel scored two, one of which came from stealing home. In game two, the Blazers scored 12 runs in the first inning and the remaining four in the fifth.

Women’s lacrosse: The women’s lacrosse team dropped two games this week. The first, was a devastating 21-2 loss against Messiah Univewrsity, the No. 24 ranked team in the nation. The second was a 19-10 loss against Widener University. In the second game, Jess Lyons, Tenley Reeder and Cassidy O’Neill each scored two goals.

Men’s lacrosse: The Blazer lacrosse team won a close game on Wednesday, March 24, at home versus Messiah University. The final score was 10-8 ending with a game-sealing goal by Bentley LeBarron with only seconds left. On Saturday, March 27, Hood was defeated by Widener University 15-9 despite five goals from Cody Upman.
