The Hood College faculty are showing off their art skills in a display in the Tatem Arts Center gallery.
Faculty members from all departments were asked to contribute art that they have created.
“In gallery presentations from before, it’s only been studio arts faculty–drawing painting printmaking, photography, ceramics, etc.,” Professor Timothy Jacobsen said. “Now we opened it up to all faculty in hopes that we get to showcase all the talents of our Hood community.”
Work from eight faculty members is featured in the gallery. The faculty chose as this year’s theme “Just Like Always.”
“I feel flattered that I have been allowed to display my art, being in the archeology department. Since it’s never been allowed before,” David Hixson, professor of art and archaeology, said.
Hixson’s art piece is a virtual vase that he created using a combination of photographs and video game software. Visitors to the gallery can use their phones to scan a QR code that will then display an image of the vase on their phones.
Before the pandemic, an event would be held where people could walk around and look at the art. However, due to COVID restrictions, there will not be an event.
“Unfortunately, we can’t have a large event, but it makes me happy that we are able to share the talents of the faculty,” Jacobsen said. “I was surprised that a lot of professors actually agreed to showing their art.”
In place of an event, students from Jacobsen’s visual media production class will be filming a virtual tour that will be uploaded to the @HoodCollegeBroadcasting Instagram and the @HappeningatHood page.
Visitors can also see the exhibit on display in the Tatem gallery.
