New year new logo

Hood athletics is starting with a fresh look for the 2021 and 2022 seasons after a year of irregular sports.

On Wednesday, Aug. 25, the athletic department held a pep rally in the quad to formally reveal the new logo to the whole Hood community. The pep rally included music, free T-shirts, therapy dogs, giveaways and games to help get everyone excited for the beginning of the athletic season.

The new logo features Blaze bursting through a shield with sharper and more defined features, symbolizing the grit and determination of Hood athletes. In addition to Blaze getting a new look, the sapphire blue that used to fill the logo is now navy.

“I think the new logo is pretty cool, I like how the font looks on it,” senior Eleana Zill said. “The pep rally was also very fun, and it seemed like everyone there was pumped for athletics.”

The old athletic logo had been around since 2005. That same year, Blaze, Hood’s mascot, was born. Since then, the logo and mascot have stuck around on every team’s uniforms and all athletic gear.

Athletics has been working with the marketing and communications office since 2019 in order to create the new logo. “We strived to keep the integrity of the old logo while adding a fresh twist,” Athletic Director Susan Kolb said.

This new logo will be placed on all team uniforms throughout the existing uniform cycle for the Blazers’ athletic teams over the next several years. Other equipment, banners and such will be replaced on a similar cycle.

The new Blazer gear will be available at the Hood bookstore.
