A new athletic trainer, Patrick Evans, joined the Hood staff this past fall.
Evans graduated from River Hill High School and later attended Boston University where he received his bachelor’s degree in athletic training.
After graduating, Evans became an athletic trainer at Washington College, in Chestertown. He spent last year working for a Division I program, Mount St. Mary’s University.
Since the change from Division I to Division III athletics, Evans said he has noticed a decrease in travel for games but has had to take on more teams as a result.
“It has been a challenging but rewarding experience so far, it is challenging due to the number of sports we have to cover but we do a great job as a team to cover everything and get everything accomplished,” Evans said.
Evans played football and ice hockey and ran track while growing up. In high school he focused on hockey and track.
“I always played sports growing up and was always hurt so I got interested as a young kid about athletic training,” Evans said.
He said always wanted to work with a hockey team and so the job opportunity at Hood really excited him when he heard the college was adding a women’s ice hockey team in 2024.
Evans said that he wants to continue working with Division III programs for a while. It is something he has always dreamed of and loves doing.
“Being able to help athletes return to the sports they love after injury is something I love to do, as well as being able to build strong relationships with the athletes I work with,” Evans said.
