This spring, Hood College is holding its inaugural Staff and Faculty Innovation and Research Exhibition.

SAFIRE will be taking place on Thursday, Feb. 23, in the Beneficial-Hodson Library. This occasion provides an opportunity for faculty and staff from diverse fields to share their thoughts, expertise, theories, research findings, and latest advancements in various areas of study.

In late April, Hood will hold the SPIRE Symposium where undergraduates have an opportunity to celebrate their achievements and gain experience by presenting these achievements to the Hood community. SAFIRE will be a precursor to this year’s SPIRE Symposium.

“We wanted to put together an event a few months in advance of that and show what staff and faculty have done in an academic environment to kind of give them an idea of what to expect, but also share that there are cool things happening at the college,” said Michelle Gricus, assistant professor of social work.

The mini-conference plans on showcasing the recent research that various faculty have been conducting and will explore what staff from different academic departments believe should be highlighted for fellow Blazers.

SAFIRE will also be a way for students to see their instructors, advisers, and other staff and faculty present their own independent research on what is important to them.
