Hood’s softball first baseman Jocelyn Pfleiger, who won Rookie of the Year last year, is again off to a hot start.

The sophomore from Quakertown, Pennsylvania, is batting .326 with seven home runs and slugging .605.

Currently, she is hitting second in the lineup for the Blazers even though last year she was batting fourth.

As a first-year student last year, Pfleiger won Rookie of the Year and put up phenomenal numbers, hitting .385 on the year with nine home runs and slugging .685.

Although she is having another great year, Pfleiger said she doesn’t pay much attention to the stats.

“I feel like stats do not define a player,” Pfleiger said. She said she doesn’t rely on her stats to dictate the kind of player she is because they can always change after a game.

“I look at it like this: did I barrel up the ball, did I have a good at-bat, but someone could have a hit and it’s off the end of the bat,” Plfeiger said.

“Our sport is based on failure, and it always depends on the day,” Pfleiger said.

Pfleiger said she tries to set aside her individual goals for the betterment of the team.

“I try to hit the ball hard in the air because it gives my teammates the chance to tag up and score or get another base,” Pfleiger said.
