A starting pitcher for the Hood College baseball team pitched three consecutive complete games leading to wins in all of them.

Joe Alexander, a senior at Hood College majoring in Integrated Marketing Communications, has been on a roll lately. He pitched complete games against Widener University, Eastern University, York College and Messiah University.

Against Widener, Eastern and York, he pitched 21 innings with 15 strikeouts. Alexander said on his complete game streak, “Getting three wins for my team is big. Anything that helps my team win, I am happy.”

Against Messiah, Alexander ended with five strikeouts and gave up six hits. Hood lost 3-1 in the last game of the season.

Alexander was named team MVP at the Hoodies awards on May 3. The senior finished the season with a 3.09 earned run average in 55.1 innings pitched and had 51 strikeouts.

His mindset when he steps on the mound and pitches is that “there is nobody better than me out there, not matter who steps in the box.” Alexander said he has that “me vs. them” mindset that makes him believe when he is pitching.

Alexander said his slider is his go-to pitch. He can throw it in the high 70s and strike people out. He did not start throwing his slider until two years ago with coach Jordan Patterson. “I had some success with it, so I kept using it,” Alexander said.

Alexander is unsure what he intends to do after college. However, he said, “probably something in baseball, coaching, or training facilities.”
