The Department of Campus Safety at Hood College announced on Thursday, March 11, that it has hired two new staff members, Jared Spriggs and Lisa Fouche.
Hood students and faculty can expect to see the two new campus employees during the evenings. Spriggs is now a duty officer and Fouche is serving as a console attendant.
Spriggs has lived in Frederick most of his life. He graduated from Walkersville High School in 2016 and is currently in his last semester at Stevenson University majoring in business administration.
When he isn’t working or tending to his studies, Spriggs spends much of his free time in the boxing ring or watching anime. “I’m mainly training for boxing as I’m working on becoming a professional boxer in the near future,” Spriggs said.
Spriggs comes from a big family, most of them living in either West Chester, Pennsylvania, or Philadelphia. He also has friends across the D.C., Maryland and Virginia regions.
There are many colleges in and around Frederick, but Spriggs said he chose Hood because of the opportunities it presented him to be able to attend graduate school for free.
Why pursue graduate school if he dreams of becoming a professional boxer? Well, Spriggs said he does his best to maintain realistic goals and always have a backup plan. “If boxing doesn’t work out, I did just get my real estate license, and I’m searching for a brokerage to sponsor me,” Spriggs said.
Spriggs is eager to meet Hood’s residents. So, if you happen to see him, don’t be afraid to extend a socially-distanced “Hood Hello.”
