Career center to hold biannual volunteer and internship fair

By Kelsey Dixon//

The Hood College Career Center’s biannual Volunteer and Internship Fair is back and set to take place virtually on March 29 at noon.

The fair is a great opportunity for Hood students to network with nonprofit organizations and potential employers. It allows students to show and gain communication skills and learn about great opportunities in and around the Frederick community.

“I attended the fair both years I was an undergraduate student at Hood College,” Breanna Harwood, the Career Center’s Career Development Program Manager, said. “This event is really for everyone. This is such a great chance to get one-on-one time with representatives that you would not get otherwise.”

Prior to the pandemic, the Career Center would usually have up to 200 students and more 50 organizations attend the fair. Due to restrictions, this year there will only be around 25 organizations involved.

“Typically for virtual events, it’s easier to handle a smaller amount of organizations. It’s just more suitable for the platform we have to use,” Harwood said.

These are the organizations that will attend:

Advanced Biofuels USA

Alzheimer’s Association

Audubon Society of Central Maryland

Center for Faith Justice

Children of Incarcerated Parents Partnership

Community F.A.R.E.

Community Living, INC.

Frederick County State’s Attorney’s Office

Frederick Food Security Network

Girls on the Run of Mid & Western Maryland
