Hood officially names new residence hall

The new residence hall that opened for students in August 2020 has been named Blazer Hall, according to an email sent from President Andrea Chapdelaine on Sept. 2.

Last semester, the students living in the building participated in a poll asking the residents what they thought the building should be named. Since the name announcement, there has been speculation on whether the name is deserved or not.

Sophomore Rachel Shaw said, “I think everyone is going to keep calling it new hall, just because we called it that for so long.”

Junior Joseph Alston said, “I feel like we could have named it after an actual human being, similar to other buildings on campus.”

There will be a ribbon cutting ceremony for the newly named Blazer Hall on Oct. 20 at 4:30 p.m., followed by a “we made it through COVID” celebration at 5 p.m.
