Hood has reported 40 positive COVID cases since Aug. 18, 17 of which are from the past week. There are currently 17 cases in isolation as of Nov. 15.

Almost all who tested positive are vaccinated and are experiencing mild symptoms or are asymptomatic, according to an email sent from President Andrea Chapdelaine on Nov. 12.

Contract tracing has been completed and has shown no transmission through academic settings, according to Chapdelaine.

In response to the increase in COVID cases, the Hodson Fitness Center closed on Nov. 12 and reopened on Nov. 16 at 1 p.m.

In order to protect the community, continue to wear a mask covering your nose and mouth inside all campus buildings, monitor yourself for COVID symptoms and wash your hands.

Frederick County has a 5.62% positivity rate, as of Nov. 15, according to the CDC. All of the counties in Maryland have a substantial or high positivity rate.

At Hood, about 94% of students, faculty and staff are fully vaccinated. About 65% of Frederick County residents are fully vaccinated.

“This is a bump in the road and one that we’ve hit before,” Chapdelaine said. “I have every faith in this community to rally and keep this recent spike in cases contained.”
