Calling all Hood students 21 years of age and older! Olde Mother is one of the most popular breweries in Frederick and for good reason. The downtown location makes it an easy walk from campus for all Hood students to enjoy while also safely getting home.

A long, granite top bar greets customers upon entry with a menu listing all drink options above. TVs and art pieces cover brown, brick walls which creates a nice vibe to the atmosphere and entices the customers to stay and hangout awhile.

Like most micro-breweries, no food options are available, but you are more than welcome to bring your own or even order from another local restaurant. Customers can lounge on bar stools, booths, picnic tables or sit outside on patio furniture.

The service at Olde Mother is a little different. Instead of having waiters and waitresses, ordering is done at the bar. Tabs can run open until the customer decides to leave and you can even grab a case or two of beer on your way out to enjoy at home.

Across from the takeout drinks cooler, there’s an alcove where all different types of board and card games are placed. This creates a homier feel that customers can enjoy while spending time at Olde Mother.

We ordered the Sucker Punch Blackberry Raspberry and the Daydream on our first round. The Sucker Punch had intense berry flavors with a sour aftertaste. Gen really enjoyed it and rated it an 8/10. The Daydream was a seltzer and had a lime and refreshing taste to it. I [Delaney] liked this one the best and rated it 7/10.

Our second round we got the Sucker Punch Mango Papaya. This was a fruity and tropical taste that we had very different opinions about. I rated it a 5/10 while Gen rated it a 10/10. This goes to show that they have drinks for all tastebuds.

While the place is open until 9 p.m. or 10 p.m. most nights, it’s more suited for a day and early evening drink. Overall, we both really enjoyed our experience at Olde Mother and hope to go back for another drink soon.
