Blazer Radio coming back strong

By Delaney Crawford//

Blazer Radio has been a club at Hood for 15 years, and after not much student involvement the last few semesters, it’s ready to come back stronger than ever.

Blazer Radio is the campus’ student-run radio station that values diversity in its programming and is considered “the voice of Hood College.”

Due to COVID-19 and online classes, there was not much student involvement last year, which is the basis of the media platform. Without enough students on campus to participate, there was not a lot the club could do.

Now that classes are back in-person and students are once again on campus every day, the adviser of the club, Professor Alan Goldenbach, is eager to get the radio up and running again.

Goldenbach has been the adviser of the club for the past five years.

“My favorite part of Blazer Radio is seeing the student’s creativity and what they decide to do for each show,” Goldenbach said.

Blazer Radio, along with the other media clubs, have a brand-new space on the third floor of Rosenstock Hall. This will give the members a more comfortable and updated space to create and encourage more students to join the club.

The main thing that Goldenbach expresses is that students run this club. “I feel very strongly about the students having a say in everything,” Goldenbach said. “Students decide what plays on the radio, and I even want them to design the new space we get on Rosenstock’s third floor.”

“I’m looking forward to getting things running again because I would love to have a small segment on the radio. Not only is it something to add to my media portfolio, but also something I can add to my resume,” senior Kyle Richardson said.

While Goldenbach is unsure where the students will plan to take the radio this year, he is very excited to get it started again.

Goldenbach sent a campus-wide email to inform students about the upcoming Blazer Radio interest meeting on Sept. 21 at 1 p.m. The meeting will take place on the third floor of Rosenstock Hall and will give students who are interested in joining a chance to learn what the club is all about.
