Thousands of people from around the area came to see what the Frederick Fair has to offer this year. Frederick hasn’t had the fair since 2019, making people excited for the return to the tradition this year.
The Frederick Fair ran from Sept. 17-25. On the second day of the fair, it was a muggy Saturday of 90 degrees, and the sun was beating down on Frederick. However, it didn’t stop people from lining up outside of the Frederick Fairgrounds, eager to get in.
There was a long line wrapped around the ticket counter in front of the Frederick Fairgrounds. Tickets were ten dollars for adults, and kids under the age of ten were able to get in free.
People attending the fair were of all ages, kids, teenagers, and those over the age of 21. Many of which weren’t wearing masks and not socially distancing. A small margin of people made the choice to wear masks, but it wasn’t required upon entry.
“I’m trying to get everyone in as fast as I can,” Cindy Kestner, a woman in charge of the ticket booth, said. She was frantically, scanning multiple people’s tickets at the same time.
Some groups and organizations that regularly participate in the fair, like the fire department, did not come back this year.
“It’s sad, but it’s most likely because of COVID-19,” Don Albert, a volunteer at the information booth said.
Albert also claimed that less people were coming through than usual, despite the masses that were tightly packed together trying to get in.
The fair has a lot of different attractions to offer, such as carnival games, rides, food vendors, beer gardens, small-businesses, livestock, gift shops, and more.
Loud country music was being played from speakers found around the fair. Popular country radio station 99.9 WFRE had a truck parked out near the front. They were playing popular country songs like “Forever After All” by Luke Combs and “Two Pina Coladas” by Garth Brooks.
There are countless booths providing all different kinds of appetizing food, such as funnel cakes, hot dogs, chili dogs, cinnamon rolls, churros, turkey legs, popcorn, and ice cream. A little bit of everything. The smells of these foods wafted throughout the fairgrounds, luring in hungry fairgoers passing by.
There were other booths set up that weren’t just for eating. The Frederick News Post had a booth set up, trying to get people to sign up for a subscription for their newspapers. The Navy had a booth set up to try to get recruits from around the area.
On the west side of the fairgrounds, a colorful Ferris wheel could be seen, as well as an arrangement of other rides and attractions that were closely put together. They had a miniature rollercoaster, swings, the zipper, and other smaller rides for children. Rumbling of the engines powering the rides and screams of joy and excitement echoed throughout the fairgrounds.

If you want to support smaller businesses, go to the Frederick fair. If you want a fun time with family or friends, go to the Frederick fair.
