Field of Screams review

By Braden Weinel//

Field of Screams in Mountville, Pennsylvania, lives up to its name.

Field of Screams is a series of spooky attractions themed specifically for Halloween. These attractions include the Den of Darkness, Frightmare Asylum, Nocturnal Wasteland, and Haunted Hayride. Throughout the property you will hear sinister laughs, crying and of course, screams.

The field is open from 4 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. weekends in October and the first two weeks of November.

The scream pass is $50 and allows you to enter all four attractions. You can purchase tickets upon arrival or online.

Den of Darkness

The Den of Darkness is a three-story haunted house that visitors walk through. The decorations are so detailed that you feel like you’re in a horror movie. There are live actors whose one job is to scare the daylights out of you. The Den of Darkness is designed with narrow paths and tight corners so there is nowhere to run and nowhere to hide.

Frightmare Asylum

The Frightmare asylum is a walkthrough show. You get to explore four floors of the hospital as mental patients try to escape their cells. The actors are extremely good at staying in character. It’s as if they are truly insane. Although the asylum is very creepy, the Den of Darkness has more scares and feels more real.

Haunted Hayride

The Haunted Hayride is an experience like no other. Once you step foot on the wagon there is no turning back. The Haunted Hayride features tons of characters and scenes. On the Hayride seldom do you feel at ease. Terrifying characters will climb into the wagon with you and prey on those who seem most scared. They will stare at you, talk to you, and even touch you. Fun for horror-lovers, not so fun for everyone else.

Nocturnal Wasteland

The Nocturnal Wasteland is my favorite attraction because it seems so real. It feels like you must truly rely on yourself for your survival. In this attraction you walk through the woods, coming face to face with ruthless monsters. The trails are dark and spooky, as they should be. The Wasteland, along with the Haunted Hayride, is what Field of Screams is most famous for.

I recommend going late at night so that you get the full creepy experience. I also recommend going with a small group of friends, even if some are more scared than others.

My overall experience was an 8/10. The only downside to the Field of Screams is that it can get busy, resulting in long lines.
