One Way to Break into the Frederick Community
Alive @ 5, a celebration of music, food and drink held each Thursday on Carroll Creek, is an integral part of the Frederick scene.
Starting in May and running each week until Sept. 29, the event the Downtown Frederick Partnership’s largest fundraiser.
The event is strictly for those aged 21 and older. There is a $5 admission fee, but occasionally local merchants will give away free tickets to lucky guests.
For those who can legally enjoy alcoholic beverages, nearby breweries and wineries come out to feature their specialties. Brewer’s Alley and District Eats seem to have dominated this year’s beer and wine scene.
The food trucks alone are worth going for. Firestone’s, Boxcar Burgers, The Dog Wagon, Sabor de Cuba, and many other local eateries have had (and will have) their chance to shine as well here.
In addition, the live music is always a huge draw for folks. The band, Run for Cover, is a cover band that plays original music as well. Paul Grossman, the drummer, says they have been trying to play for Alive @ 5 for three years.
“That’s how backed up the list is,” Grossman stated.
Upcoming musical acts are The Knight Brothers, Edwin Ortiz y La Mafia Del Guaguanco, Dogo du Togo and Special Delivery. There are different genres for everyone to enjoy.
One Frederick local, Drew Abramson, says has gone almost every Thursday since he moved to the area. “It’s a great way to meet new people and to network… Plus, there’s always so many friendly dogs,” he said.
Christine Van Bloem, marketing manager of the Downtown Frederick Partnership, said she is very excited to see more Hood students come out. “We would love to see the 21 and over crowd from Hood at Alive @ Five,” she said.
