The goalkeeper for the women’s soccer program is leading the charge between the sticks, despite a slow start to the season for the team.
Brenna Ellenberger, a sophomore from Baltimore, has elevated her game from her freshman campaign.
She has played in all of the Blazers’ first eight games, starting in seven of them. She has allowed five goals this
season, maintaining a goals against average of 0.67. This is nearly a 1 goal per game improvement from her freshman season.
“The key to my success has been that I have gained a lot of confidence from last season, and a lot of my success this season has been how well the defense has been doing,” Ellenberger said.
She went to Perry Hall high school where she won two state championships. She also played club soccer for Baltimore Celtic Union, one of the top club soccer programs in the state.
Ellenberger stands at 6 foot tall, which helps her in the goal box but on the basketball court too. Ellenberger also plays forward for the women’s basketball team.
She added that she feels really comfortable at Hood and knows that choosing play soccer as a Blazer was the right decision.
“Right when I got onto campus for my visit, I immediately loved the campus. I loved the environment and how Hood wasn’t too big. Walking around campus and talking to the coaches I knew Hood was the place for me,” Ellenberger said.
The sophomore added that having a supportive team helps to boost her confidence on the field and that having a great coaching staff helps to keep her focused off the field.
The team only has two wins but has had some favorable results, including a 2-2 draw against St. Mary’s College of Maryland, a nationally ranked program and a 1-0 win over Juniata College, a team they tied last season.
The team aims to continue displaying a strong defense led by Ellenberger in their next game on Oct. 12, against Stevenson University.
