A Hood College alumnus and founder of Falling Squares media company has found a permanent home for Movie Knight, a film screening event in Frederick that shows the work of independent artists.

Jordon Holt, who graduated in 2014, has partnered with Frederick Arts Council to host the film screenings on the first Friday of every month from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. at 5 E. Second St., in Frederick.

Movie Knight is an event that gives film artists the spotlight. “If you want to showcase or display your work at a big event for free, you can,” Holt said.

After the screenings, cast and crew have the opportunity to talk about their work. Filmmakers from all over the DC, Maryland and Virginia area have submitted movies. Even an American student studying in France has submitted films, he said.

Artists who wish to submit their work can do so through the Falling Squares website, fallingsquares.com. Holt said they want to show all movies submitted “unless there’s something that is super graphic that we cannot show, then we would communicate that with the artist.”

Movie Knight is also suitable for networking and collaborating with fellow artists, Holt said. “It creates a club at the end of the night,” he said, “and we love to see that.”

Movie Knight organizers want to keep the screenings to a minimum of three to four movies a night. Audience members can also vote on their favorite film at the show’s end. The movies range from 10 to 30 minutes.

Holt, a native of Frederick, initially came to Hood to study business, but then switched to communication arts, which he said a “better way to express myself.”

Holt had his own YouTube series called “IntelliGents,” a sketch show  inspired by shows like the “Chappelle Show,” “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” and “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.”

Holt said he called the show “IntelliGents” because “it was 90% improv, 10% intelligence.”
