The Modeling Team is preparing for its upcoming fashion show, “BRATZ vs, Barbies” which will be held in the Hodson Auditorium inside Rosenstock Hall on April 26 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The show will have 10 different scenes inspired by the characters and world of Barbie and Bratz.

The Hoodlum Steppers will also perform in the show during intermission and the final scene. For those who don’t know, step is a form of dance which is made with hands and feet instead of a beat. When paired with music, it is called a stroll.

According to team leader Shay Miller, the group has been practicing since October to prepare for this show.

“Learning all the moves and how to move as a group was the most difficult,” freshman Hailey Barchacky said.

However, there were many mixed opinions on what the hardest part was when preparing for the show.

Freshman Natanie Kosh said that a mix of different personalities and finding the right time for everyone to meet was another difficulty for the team.

However, every model unanimously agrees on the sense of community within the team. “My favorite part about modeling is the people,” junior Maura O’Malley said. “It’s really fun, and it’s like we’re a family.”

Jones said that the club is helping her to overcome stage fright.

Senior Alexandra Kelly said, “I like building the friendships that I normally would not have contact with.”

According to treasurer Cyenna Jones, planning the show itself takes a lot of work, especially when it comes to dressing the models.

“We start off by asking the team their sizes, and then we pick out items online,” Jones said. “Then we create a document and pass it onto LaShawn Taylor, the club adviser. I keep all the receipts for the budget.”

The clothes are an essential piece of curating a great show and solidifying the theme.

Scenes one and eight were choreographed by Kelly. “This show has a lot more choreography in each scene than in previous shows,” Kelly said. “We’re able to get more into the characters of Bratz and Barbie than just walking with the music.”

Light refreshments will be provided at the show, including a variety of cookies, chocolate-covered pretzels, lemonade and water.

Miller, the incoming club president, will hold an interest meeting next semester after classes begin for more information about joining the modeling club and the step team.
