The Hood College field hockey team broke or tied several records in its 13-0 win against Notre Dame of Maryland University (NDMU) on Tuesday, Oct. 4.

Within the first 16 seconds of the game, Kate Haufe scored the first goal of the evening for Hood. This broke the record for quickest goal in program history, the previous record was 30 seconds into the game.

The Blazers saw point production from several athletes against NDMU.

“All season everyone has been really consistent when they go into the game…Everybody knows their role and knows where to be…I think that’s probably what lead to multiple people scoring and assisting,” Coach Carley Shannon said.

Additionally, the Blazers were led by senior forward Sage Barnhart who tied the program record of four goals in a single game and tied the record for most points in a game with eight points.

It didn’t stop there for the Blazers as they amassed a total of 13 goals, which is a new record in a Division III game this year.

Hood is also tied with the University of Maine (Division I) for most goals in an NCAA field hockey game this year and tied the previous school record for goals in a game, which was set in 2001 in a match against Trinity Washington University.

The Blazers matchup against NDMU also set new records. First being, most single game assists in Division III and program history with 11 assisted goals, the previous program record being seven assists against Sweet Briar in September 2016.

The Blazers also broke the previous school record for assists in a season with 22 assisted goals this season, the previous being 17 assisted goals set by the 2014 field hockey team. The final record set was for most points in a single game in Division III and program history with 37 total points for the night. The previous school record also was against Sweet Briar in 2016 with 27 total points.

The field hockey team has three games left in its regular season play, one final conference game against Widener University on Oct. 22, and two out of conference games against Bryn Athyn College on Oct. 25, and Southern Virginia University on Oct. 29.

“Going into every game our goal is to compete as best as possible and play the teams better than we played them the year before,” Shannon said.
