Events to look forward to in April

Need a break from studies? Here are some activities on- and off-campus.

Free Tuesday lunchtime yoga sessions are offered in the Chapel from noon to 1 p.m.

The InterVarsity Fellowship hosts weekly meetings, ranging from general Bible studies and men’s Bible studies, to athlete Bible studies.

April 10, 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. the Campus Activities Board is having a Battle of the Classes competition on the quad, where students can compete with students of other classes. Students should wear their class color or dink.

April 11, 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Student-Led Peer Advocacy for Healthy Relationships and Consent (SPARC) is partnering with Heartly House for the annual Take Back the Night event in Whit Commons. It is in honor of survivors of sexual assault, sexual violence, and intimate partner violence. There will be music, art, survivor stories, and community.

April 12-13, 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. the Hood College Dance Ensemble will have their spring dance concert in the Hodson Auditorium. It is free and open to the public, and doors open at 7 p.m. The show will be live-streamed on YouTube.

April 16, 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. there will be a Holi celebration on the Whitaker patio. Students can enjoy traditional food, henna tattoos, music, dancing, festivities and experience the optional Holi practice of chalk throwing.

April 20, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Rotaract Club is hosting a bike donation with Bikes for the World in Downtown Frederick at 1760 N. Market St.

April 22, 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. the Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society is hosting a dessert night for all Hood students in Whit Commons, where students can enjoy desserts from places like Crumbl Cookie and Krispy Kreme. There will also be wood cutouts to paint.

April 23, 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. the Beneficial-Hodson Library will be hosting a book sale, where students can enjoy cake, music, camaraderie and cheap books.

April 24, 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. the Campus Activities Board will be having a bingo in Whitaker Commons, where students can play to win prizes such as electronics, appliances, Hood merch and more.

April 26, Noon to 4 p.m. the Campus Activities Board is having its annual Spring Fest out on the quad where students can enjoy Kona Ice, a mechanical bull, inflatables, yard games, henna tattoos, mini gold, a dunk tank and more. Coblentz Dining Hall will be serving crabs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

April 26, 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. the All About Modeling and Etiquette Club will be performing its annual fashion show in the Hodson Auditorium. The theme is BRATZ versus Barbies.

There will be events downtown as well, such as the April First Saturday, new art exhibits and ghost tours of Historic Downtown.
